8/4/2007Napleton Porsche Joins Tafel Racing At Road America
Napleton Porsche of Westmont will sponsor the No. 73 Tafel Racing Porsche RSR for the Generac 500 at Road America and round eight of the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) to be run on August 11.
Team Owner Jim Tafel has a long connection with the Westmont, Illinois based Porsche Dealership. Ron Barnaba, Napleton general manager, is credited with getting Tafel into sports car racing.
"Ron and I go back a ways," Tafel said " I have bought several cars from Ron and he is the one to blame for getting me into racing. He had a Porsche display in the showroom and there were a couple of race cars mixed in and one thing led to another and now we are getting together for the race at Road America. The Road America event is the closest ALMS race to Chicago and for Tafel Racing's first event there it is a natural for Napleton Porsche to be involved. This is really our relationship coming full-circle."
"Jim runs a first-class team," Barnaba said. "His family is originally from the Westmont area and we met several years ago. This will be a nice opportunity for our customers and our employees to get engaged at the top end of sports car racing at a great race track like Road America. We will host the team for a party and presentation the week of the race to get things kicked-off."
The team will display their No. 71 and No. 73 Tafel Racing Porsche 997 RSR sports cars and greet guests at Napleton Porsche on Tuesday, August 7 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. CDT. The dealership is located at 201 East Ogden Avenue in Westmont, Illinois.
