Cayman Interseries Launches First Official Championship Season This Weekend at Sebring International Raceway

New Racing Series Organized by Napleton Porsche and Sanctioned by HSR SEBRING, Fla. (March 2, 2010) The Cayman Interseries a new auto racing championship organized by Napleton Porsche of Westmont that showcases the Porsche Cayman S while paying tribute to Porsche's rich sports car racing heritage, will launch its first official full season of competition this weekend at the Historic Sportscar Racing (HSR) Sebring Endurance Challenge presented by Classic Motorsports Magazine at Sebring International Raceway, March 5 - 7. The Sebring opener is the first of nine races on the 2010 Cayman Interseries schedule which includes stops at seven different classic road courses from this weekend straight through November. In addition to Sebring, the schedule includes other legendary venues such as Daytona International Speedway, Road Atlanta, Watkins Glen International and Road America in addition to Hutchinson Island Savannah and the all-new Autobahn Country Club Joliet. The Watkins Glen round will be held during the annual GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series Sahlen?s Six Hours of the Glen weekend, June 4 - 6, while the race at Autobahn is part of the big Harrah's Autobahn Grand Prix presented by Mazda weekend, July 30 - August 1. All other currently scheduled Cayman Interseries races will be held during HSR events with Sebring and Road Atlanta each hosting a pair of Interseries races on different HSR race weekends in 2010. Created, owned and operated by Napleton Porsche and that organization's General Manager Ron Barnaba, the Cayman Interseries is open only to 2009 and 2010 Porsche Cayman S models that are raced in near-stock configuration by a competitive group of emerging drivers that typically own the cars they race. The heritage connection comes in the form of each Cayman's livery that has a direct and visible link to a legendary Porsche race car from the past. Only in the Cayman Interseries can you see modern interpretations of such famous Porsche race cars as the Gulf/Wyer, Martini and Salzburg 917s, the Holbert Lowenbrau and Miller High Life 962s, the Jagermeister/Kremer and Dick Barbour Racing 935s, the Akin/Coca-Cola 935 and 962 and so many more. Each Cayman's throw-back color scheme is also matched up with a corresponding Cayman chassis number, which means the rich history of some of the most memorable Porsche race cars to ever hit the track will symbolically continue with an all-new chapter in the Cayman Interseries. Napleton Porsche is the exclusive supplier and preparation shop for the Porsche Cayman S race cars used in the Interseries. A lot of planning, preparation and good old fashion man hours have gone into the launch of the Cayman Interseries and we can?t wait to begin our first full season of competition this weekend at Sebring, Barnaba said. The fact that we will conduct our first official points-paying race in concert with HSR on a Sebring track that has produced so many great Porsche memories makes it the ideal venue to begin a new era in the marque's rich racing heritage. We are grateful to all of the drivers and competitors that have stepped up to support the Cayman Interseries and we can promise a fun and highly competitive experience both this weekend and all season long. The Cayman Interseries conducted four preliminary races on select HSR weekends last year. Several series founding drivers who showed well in those events are returning for the full 2010 season, including Jim Bacus, Jim McCormick and Will Conniff.
