2011 PORSCHE BOXSTER Review

Overview

A two-seater mid-engine roadster reminiscent of the renowned Porsche 550, the 2011 Porsche Boxster is available in three trims - Boxster, Boxster S and Boxster Spyder. The Boxster Spyder is an all new trim for 2011 with reduced weight, additional power and lavish detailing.

Powertrain And Performance

The Base Boxster is powered by a 255-hp 2.9-liter flat six-cylinder engine, while the S trim is equipped with a 310-hp 3.4-liter flat six-cylinder engine with trendy direct fuel injection; both are mated to an improved six-speed manual transmission. Porsche 7-speed Doppelkupplung (PDK) transmission is optional. The Boxster Spyder is powered by a 320-hp 3.4-liter flat-6 engine with a choice of standard six-speed manual or optional seven-speed PDK dual-clutch automated manual transmission.

Build And Styling

The Base Boxster features 17-inch wheels, air conditioning, three-spoke steering wheel; a power soft top; partial leather upholstery, power windows with one-touch up/down and anti-jam feature; front and center console with storage console and lockage glovebox; AM/FM radio with in-dash CD player; cruise control; on-board computer with continuous indication of mileage, time and speed; and instrument cluster with central rev counter and multi-purpose display. The Boxster S comes with 18-inch wheels and a seven-speaker sound system. The all new Boxster Spyder is a two-seat roadster with 19-inch Boxster Spyder Wheels, power windows, standard sport seats, cruise control, lockable glovebox and storage compartment behind handbrake lever, three-spoke Sport Steering Wheel with paddle shifters, continuously adjustable blower with defroster and recirculation settings and Bluetooth interface for mobile phone with phone holder.

Safety Features

Four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes with brake assist; front and side seat-mounted airbags with a curtain airbag for head protection; fixed roll-over protection bars; four-piston monobloc fixed alloy calipers and ventilated brake discs; seatbelt pre-tensioner with belt-force limitation; central locking with remote control; and immobilizer system are standard on the 2011 Porsche Boxster.
