Team Hot Wheels and Jack Baldwin Reunite For Pirelli World Challenge Effort with GTSport/Porsche Napleton Racing Cayman S
Championship
Duo Reunites Two Decades after Taking Trans-Am Title; New Effort Evolves From
Pirelli Cayman Interseries
WESTMONT, IL (March 1, 2012) Reuniting one of the most popular and successful teams in North American sports car road racing history, Team Hot Wheels and driver Jack Baldwin in cooperation with GTSport Racing and Porsche Napleton Racing (PNR) have announced a full-season campaign in a GTS class Porsche Cayman S in the 2012 Pirelli World Challenge.
Baldwin and Hot Wheels joined forces
to capture the 1992 SCCA-Pro Trans-Am Championship and now return a full 20
years later in search of more title-winning success in a premier SCCA-Pro
division. The car of a choice for the new effort is a Pirelli Cayman
Interseries-based Porsche Cayman S that has been modified to compete in the GTS
class. The Cayman S was built by PNR, the racing division of leading
Chicago area Porsche dealer Napleton Porsche of Westmont, and will be entered
and maintained by GTSport Racing.
"The original Team Hot Wheels program was a winner on and off the track," said
Baldwin, an American road racing legend who is also a two-time IMSA Camel GTU
Champion. "We won races and the 1992 championship while the actual Hot Wheels
models of our Camaros turned out to be some of the best-selling Hot Wheels of
all time. We are shooting for nothing short of similar success this time
around in the Pirelli World Challenge."
The new Team Hot Wheels Porsche Cayman S features the iconic Hot Wheels logo
but every other element of the design is a completely new and modern departure
from the livery of the original Camaros. The Cayman S itself is based on
the popular Interseries cars with the necessary competition and performance
upgrades for the step up to Pirelli World Challenge competition.
The opening two races of the 2012 Pirelli World Challenge will take place with
a doubleheader on the streets of St. Petersburg, March 23 - 25. One race
later, Round Two of the Pirelli World Challenge will be part of the annual
Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach, April 13 - 15, not far from Mattel
headquarters in El Segundo, California.
The No. 68 Team Hot Wheels/GTSport/Porsche Napleton Racing Cayman S is also
supported by Napleton Porsche Motorsports, Invoice Prep, Voodoo Ride BBS, JRZ
Suspension Engineering, StopTech, James Fish Restaurant, RaceLink, TPC, AIM,
RS683 and Schnorr Art.
