For the 2023 Porsche Classic Restoration Challenge, Napleton Westmont Porsche went above and beyond. We are very proud to have won the 2023 Porsche Classic Restoration Challenge for the East Region. This is our second year participating in the event, and we were very fortunate to have a long-time customer agree to have their vehicle not only worked on, but fully restored. Our Porsche Classic team took on the challenge of restoring this rare vehicle by using only Porsche Genuine Parts and keeping the car 100% original.
This rare vehicle is the iconic 1994 Porsche 911 Turbo 3.6. Not only is this car rare, but its only had 2 owners and only has 32,024 miles. Originally bought in late 1993, the car spent 13 years on the east coast of Florida, somehow escaping the nightmare that is Florida ocean salt. In 2006, the car was sold with only 15,960 miles on it and brought to Westmont Porsche near Chicago for the first time.
Fast forward 17 years and only 15,000 miles later, we come to the 2023 Porsche Restoration Challenge. Doing a full restoration on a vehicle is never an easy task, and it's even trickier when you're working with a rare 30-year-old vehicle. Just trying to find a new wiring harness for this 1994 Porsche 911 Turbo 3.6 took months. Other parts had to be ordered as soon as possible, like the factory rebuilt speed line wheels, just to ensure they would arrive on time for final assembly. Some of the work that was done to this 1994 Porsche 911 Turbo 3.6 includes:
The 1994 Porsche 911 Turbo 3.6 was the highest-performance regular production car Porsche had ever produced at the time. Its 3.6-liter single-turbo flat-six engine produces 355 horsepower, 384 pound-feet of torque, and is capable of 0 to 60 mph times of 4.7 seconds reaching a top speed of 174 mph. Fewer than 1,500 1994 Porsche 911 Turbo 3.6 were ever made.
You may be wondering, "What is the price of a 1994 Porsche 911 Turbo 3.6?". While there are many factors when it comes to the price of such a rare Porsche Classic, there was recently a 1994 Porsche 911 Turbo S 3.6 that sold for $1,265,000 in January of 2023.
The 2023 Area East Porsche Restoration Challenge took place in downtown Chicago. Magnificent Porsche contestants ranged from the 1950s to the 2000s. There were rare Porsche vehicles of all shapes and sizes on display.
The United States is home to more classic Porsche sports cars than any other market. As you can imagine, not all Porsche Classic cars remain in pristine condition after decades on the road. That's where the Porsche Restoration Challenge comes in. Porsche Classic encourages dealerships across the country to acquire a car that is due for some expert technical attention. Each vehicle undergoes restoration in the best possible hands: Porsche-trained technicians who have a portfolio of more than 80,000 Porsche Classic Genuine Parts at their disposal. A panel of experts from Porsche Cars North America, Inc. (PCNA) judged the event based on criteria that included not only Restoration - such as engine, suspension and interior - but also documentation like the Classic Technical Certificate.
Jonathan Sieber, Senior Manager of Porsche Classic at Porsche Cars North America, Inc. (PCNA) said the following about the Porsche Classic Restoration Challenge, "The response from the Porsche community and our participating dealerships for the past two years has been tremendous. It's incredibly rewarding to watch a classic Porsche vehicle go through a well-documented, step-by-step restoration that the challenge expects, and the results certainly show".
